On Sunday 8th October, we continue our theme of 'What Integrative Medicine in cancer means to me' with Chris Woollams Interviewing Sandra Tearney, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and repeatedly told she had, at most, 18 months to live; Sandra is more than 5 years on from the original pessimism, having had a personal programme built by Chris around her conventional medicine.
This is all part of the 20th Birthday celebrations for CANCERactive, Britain's clear leader in Integrative Medicine for cancer in the UK.
Sandra loves riding horses and was in the Police force when diagnosed. At the Hospital, she was repeatedly told she was going to die from her cancer and that she had, at most, 18 months to live. Five years and eight months on, she has beaten the negativity, and has a CA-125 of just 6 - she was even telephoned by her new oncologist, who asked what had she done - her CA-125 had 'plummeted'. "I am hoping to be one of Chris Woollams' success stories", she replied. Beyond the diet, exercise, supplements, and mental approaches, Chris suggested she tried a treatment not offered at her hospital. It really was Integrative Medicine for cancer.
This is, of course, nothing new. Chris started helping people 20 or more years ago. After building a programme over the telephone for Sir Geoffrey Boycott, who had been told by his oncologist that he had just 12 weeks to live with cancer at the back of his tongue, then building a programme for Galina the next day, who had stage 4, grade 4 Ovarian cancer and been told to go home and write her will, Chris started to build more and more Personal Prescriptions for people. (Ed: Both Geoffrey and Galina are alive and well today, 20 years later).
